Troll country
Posted on August 12th, 2014
If you drove the Trollstigen in Norway slowly upwards, no it’s not possible to drive at normal speed, there are too many busses and flatlanders on the street, then you soon reach a highland. In this mountain part you can still find some snow pieces in the middle of the summer.
Therefore we come from the Trollstigen, I guess we are now in the heart of the troll country. Unfortunately I could not catch any trolls, although I used tripwires and photo traps. So we have to be content with the awesome landscape, which Norway can offer us.
Perseids
Posted on August 11th, 2014
Tomorrow night from the 12. to the 13. of August it happens again, the meter shower reaches the maximum.
If you want to take some pictures of it, you should looking for an area with less light, set up the camera with a wide angle lens on a tripod and let it work the whole night long. For the best result, you should use an interval timer. The camera catches the most meteors in the direction of Kassiopeia and you should use a shutter speed of 20 to 30 seconds with the biggest aperture your lens has. The ISO numbers should be between 800 and 3200.
A lot of moonlight

My friend Sven, was a few days before at a training camp up on the Melchsee-Frutt. He guessed, it could be worth it to stay there for a night to photograph some images.
I was boring, my indexfinger was itching and the weather was right perfectly. Therefore we drove for a short stop over nigh,t up to this place and shooted the whole night long. I have rented two additional lenses, the 17mm TS and the 14mm f/2.8 from Canon.
I have to say, both lenses are really great, extremly sharp and both had nearly no coma. Especially the TS lens I would like to have by my own, if this lens is not so unbelievable heavy. And who wants to hauling more weight up to the mountains? But you have also to learn to use this lens. Because, if you are looking closely to the image, then you can see that the stars at the upper part are not perfectly sharp. After some meditating, I found the reason why this happend. The lens was a little bit tilted, but in the darkness and on the small camera screen I didn’t notice it, how silly…
Color explosion reloaded
Posted on August 5th, 2014
I see it coming, thick clouds at the sky above me and at the horizon bright blue. It was bound to happen, when the sun is appearing again at the horizon and the whole blaze of color bangs it under the cloud cover.
This shot is a single shot and not an HDR bracket series, like I do it otherwise. The sky was really that colorful and the only utility I used, was a speedlight to brighten up the apple blossoms in the foreground. There are sometimes such spectaculare sunsets, really!

Today it becomes patriotic, because we are celebrating the Swiss national holiday. There are swinging Flags, blown alpenhorns and yodeling.
As a real “Eidgenosse” I would like to celebrate too, but there is Bubu. And Bubu has a big problem with all the fireworks, were you can hear banging the whole long day.
Therefore we are disappear each year in a foreign country, thereby our furry friend doesn’t get a heart attack. And he doesn’t have to hide it the whole long day, shivering, in the shower cabin.
For all other Swiss: have fun at the 1. of August with all the fireworks!
When the sky glows
Posted on Juli 29th, 2014
There are evenings, you can see how it will come. Then you know, now you have to pack your gear, drive to a place with an interesting object and you will get a color spectacle.
And so it was at this evening, you coldn’t do anything wrong. There were several cloud layers were begun to glow in different colors. I do only have to press the shutter and thing was in box.
In such sunsets it makes twice as much fun with the right equipment to run a riot
On the Selun

I don’t know whether I have told this story, but anyhow: My friend and I were climbing on the Mountain at night. A really hard climb, really steep and lightly bent. If you are watching upwards, you can see the end at the horizon, okay only a bit more crucifying and then you are there. But no! After half an hour or so, another look upwards and the horizon is still in the exact same distance.
This hill kills me pretty much, escpecially with all the camera gear on my back.
But now it comes really hard; short after we arrived the top, there is another guy coming up, take a fast image with his iPhone with flash! and goes down again. What a madcap, but now it becomes more worse. So after two or three hours later, we were still photographing, the same guy was coming again with four of his dudes on his tow. And this time the fellows were RUNNING UP! This should be FORBIDDEN!
After I was on the top, I was nearly to a heart attack, but these guys were still fresh, they didn’t were gasping and more worse, they agreed upon the next mountain right after this! This should be really forbidden…
The lonesome pony
Posted on Juli 24th, 2014
The pony is searching the whole long day after the last foodable grass blades, to get something between the teeth. It is bitter cold and the floor is already partly covered with snow. But bravely is it amble around for the last bit of green.
Not even it can enjoy this stunning sunset, poor pony.
Good is there a barn behind me with fresh straw and hay…
Chestnut and Bokeh

Wonderful how the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 the whole scenery is drawing so soft and only the choosen object is in the depth of field. I use this lens likely for portraits shooting to bring people out in the photo.
If I had choosen an aperture of 16, who will find this small chestnut in the whole image? But so it is surrounded by a beautiful and soften play of colors. Does the depth of field not act like a flood light spot on a dark stage?
